Chargers’ J.K. Dobbins Doesn’t Hold Back On Reunion With OC
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers signed running back J.K. Dobbins in free agency, meaning that Dobbins will get the chance to reunite with offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Roman had previously served as the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator from 2019 through 2022, and Dobbins was a member of the Ravens in those last three years of Roman’s stay.

Baltimore’s rushing attack was elite under Roman, so it’s no surprise that Dobbins is excited to get back to work with him in Los Angeles.

“It gives me a lot of excitement. It’s fun to play in his offense,” Dobbins said, via Nick Shook of NFL.com. “I think that he does have some good things in the passing game, too. Like you said, he sticks with the run, that’s the identity. You want an offense that has an identity. You don’t want to be looking everywhere else to find your identity, you want to have it. I think that his offense has that. The guys that he builds and puts in there, it complements that idea. I think that it’s going to be great.”

Dobbins, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Ravens in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He played in 15 games during his rookie campaign, rushing for 805 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging a robust six yards per carry.

Since then, however, Dobbins has played in a grand total of nine contests as a result of various different injuries. He had to settle for a cheap one-year deal with the Chargers, but given that he is still just 25 years old, there is plenty of time for him to get right.

Of course, Dobbins is coming off of a torn Achilles, so it remains to be seen just how effective he will be in 2024, but he certainly has the perfect offensive coordinator to get him back on track.

J.K. Dobbins added that he would obviously love to be ready for the start of training camp, but that he is trusting LA’s medical staff to make the correct call.
